There were two reason why flooding occurred along the Essex Knol
(a) lDuring a period of heavy rain water would pour down Station Hill from
the stream in Water Lane.
(b) The River Stour would burst its banks and the Essex Knoll meadow would
flood.
This was prevented in the mid 1960`s by dredging the river and tipping the
spoil onto the surounding land.
The Meadow we see today is actually 18 inches higher than it`s natural height.
